PRESENTACION DEL PROGRAMA

El programa LA ERA DE LAS GRANDES BANDAS está dedicado a la música de la era que comienza en 1930 y llega hasta el final de la Segunda Guerra Mundia, en 1945. Algunos escritores sobre este tema dicen, sin embargo, que esa era no ha terminado todavía, porque hasta el momento presente siguen apareciendo nuevas orquestas y en las estaciones de radio de todo el mundo se sigue radiando la música de ese estilo, música que en su momento hicieron famosa orquestas como las de Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey y muchas más.

En este porgrama hacemos entonces un homenaje a esas grandes orquestas, a sus cantantes, muchos de ellos convertidos en solistas que alcanzaron la fama por su propio valor, como Frank Sinatra y Ella Fitzgerald, por ejemplo.

BENNY GOODMAN

Benjamin David Goodman, nacido en Chicago el 30 de mayo de 1909, falleció en Nueva York el 13 de junio de 1986. Conocido como El rey del swing, es, junto con Glenn Miller y Count Basie, el máximo representante de este estilo jazzístico. Director de una de las big band más populares de su época, desarrolló sobre todo la variante más suave del género, la de las sweet bands, y fue el iniciador de la llamada era del swing. Una de sus canciones más famosas es, por ejemplo, "Sing, sing, sing (with a swing)", empleada en múltiples bandas sonoras y obras de teatro y musicales, aparte de ser una de las canciones destacadas entre las mejores por los Grammy
